How School Choice Is Framed by Parental Preferences and Family Characteristics: A Study of Western Area,Sierra Leone

This research set out to investigate how, in a post-conflict area, parental preferences and household characteristics affect school choice for their children. A multinomial logit is used to model the relationship between education preferences and the selection of schools for 954 households in Freetown and neighboring districts, Western Area, Sierra Leone. The increased economic well-being of a family tends to increase the likelihood of choosing a nongovernment school. As a child gets older parents are more likely to select government over nongovernment schools. For girls, parents are twice as likely to select a nongovernmental organization (NGO) school than a government one. Where parental preference for girls is a “safe environment” government is the preferred choice over a private proprietor school. Interestingly, the level of household education does not affect the likelihood of attending any school management type.  相似文献

《民办教育促进法》有关民办学校终止的规定还不够具体、详细,存在关于民办学校终止的原因规定不全面、没有规定民办学校解散的原因、有关民办学校清算的规定不详细、对学生受教育权保护力度不够等问题。民办学校的终止,可将《民法总则》中的指导原则作为重要法律依据。在今后的民办教育立法中,应加强民办学校终止的法律制度建设,促进民办教育健康有序发展。  相似文献

韩国的科举制度萌芽于新罗时期,确立于高丽958年,在朝鲜时期得到进一步的发展和完善,于1894年甲午更张时期被废除,在韩国共存在了936年。科举制度成为韩国封建制度必不可少的一部分,对韩国文化产生了积极影响,它丰富了韩国的政治文化,推动了儒学在韩国的发展,并促进了韩国教育的发展。  相似文献

缔约过失责任早在罗马法时期已有所认识。缔约过失责任理论首先在德国提出,并被德国民法确立为一般性原则。缔约过失责任理论不仅对其他大陆法系国家和地区产生很大影响,而且也影响了英美法系。英美法没有产生缔约过失责任的一般原则,而是形成了源于判例、起着与缔约过失责任制度相同作用的允诺禁反言原则。我国民法采纳了缔约过失责任理论,并确立了缔约过失责任制度。  相似文献

This article contributes a current thematic review of literature about the challenges of productive parent–professional partnership working relating to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). It also reports on an empirical project which explored early experiences of professionals working under the newly statutory SEND Code of Practice 2015 and asks what new challenges have emerged for SEND parent‐partnerships. Towards shaping the field: theorising the knowledge in a formal course for academic developers

In recent years there have been calls both for building the knowledge base of academic development (AD) and for systematic induction of newcomers to the field if AD is to advance as a professional and an academic field. Despite the importance and complexity of AD, induction of novice academic developers remains mostly informal and predominantly focuses on the practices of the field. We argue that more-experienced academic developers have an obligation to provide formal and systematic routes into the field and its knowledge base than is currently the case. One way of doing this is through offering a formal course for growing the next generation of academic developers. Such a course could equip newcomers with a more solid and shared knowledge base, thus contributing to shaping the epistemic spine of AD. In this paper, using Maton's Legitimation Code Theory, we offer an analysis of an existing course aimed at equipping novices with the theoretical and practical knowledge to enable them to solve some of the problems in higher education. From this analysis have emerged general principles that could inform the selection, sequencing and pacing of knowledge in a formal course for academic developers.  相似文献
